From what I've been reading, time for reaction is the most important thing. It's about being instantly-killed when they appear, which is dumb and, yes, encourage alts...

But also, perhaps L1-2 trolls could only KO (and maybe steal something from you) or something like that, too. To make the "starting" of mining less "frustrating" so to speak. Thinking about upcoming new worlds, having insta-killing trolls on L1 will be a great discouragement.

As for nerfing them to be like boar/deer on L1, I don't think it is needed if both the above measures (for example) are taken. They're enough to reduce their threat, they should remain a formidable opponent :)

Trolls are too valuable to be nerfed.

And yes, for those of use who have only one character the insta-death is a significant cause for worry. Having no trolls at L1 would be perfect in my opinion. The deeps is where we mortals shouldn't go.

Given what I read about current troll mechanic, my guess is the only way to make a worse one would be to randomly spawn Monty Python Grail bunnies...

Instant death from miming without real chance to defend (because of the imbalance of cooldown for characters vs. none for critters)? Really?

Jorb, Loftar... isn't that a bit too big of a 'fuck you' toward your users?

I think trolls shouldn't be on LV1, or atleast only be as tough as a badger or boar, and don't kill you, only KO you and maybe gave a serious wound that is a bit difficult to heal.

Would also be cool if you get a 5-10 second head-start so you don't just get bonked instantly.
Total misplay.

I don't make alts and my main is now too scared to mine level 1 in my own cave! Stupid idea.

I'd like it if trolls would announce themselves a few seconds before spawning in, maybe with a graphic of them crawling out of the rock and a battlecry

Might I suggest poweroverwhelming.mp3? 8-)

Right because everyone who doesnt spam alts is obviously just a noob who has no need to go deeper than L1

The problem with trolls is the change in combat system from old haven. Creatures in this game dont have cooldown timer when combat is initiated, whereas players have a significant delay and if you mine into a troll, it is going to be literally 1 tile in front of you. This means that even if you react instantly, there's literally no way to avoid getting hit.

Nobody is saying to nerf the stats on trolls, it is just a bit dumb that we arent even given a fighting chance, I just think we should at least be given a small headstart to run away. Even if your chance of survival is like 90%, it is much better than having a 100% "fuck you" dice roll on every wall. There is already a lot of incentive to make mining alt, but some of us are too lazy for that! Forcing the use of alts is bad game design imo.

Trolls should be something to be excited for, like gold and silver. Not something you're genuinely afraid of with every single fucking mined tile.

Come to think of it, the people that can say "I killed a troll on layer 5 in legacy haven without idiot cheese tactics" (oppknocks, call down the thunder) are almost nonexistent. Good luck doing it with 300 UAC, and if you can't do it with 300 UAC, good luck having friends stare at you mining as backup.
