Character: MM 30 PERC 33

q23 Bow + q17 Bone Arrow:
- Aiming time (on foot): ~20 sec.; meter filled ~90% (i'd say it's 87 or 88, but let's round it up).
- Aiming time (from boat @ Deer): ~40 sec.; meter filled ~60%.
- Damage (from boat @ Deer) = 89.

q23 Boar Spear:
- Aiming time (on foot): ~11 sec.; meter filled ~95%
- Aiming time (from boat @ Deer): ~20 sec.; meter filled ~85%.
- Damage (from boat @ Deer) = 146 (almost 1shot).

q61 (silver one) Boar Spear had roughly the same timers but hit Deer for 196, by the way, one-shotting the creature.

It seems to me that low-level hunting is indeed more viable with a spear now. I mean, my arrows were kinda lower than a bow but that wouldn't make for 60 additional damage at this quality. So, q30 spear, 30 MM 30 PERC should be enough to 1shot deers. And would be fairly easy to get, with the abundance of metal in this world. Sprucecaps rejoice.

While I do appreciate your efforts to test math out, I should admit that "pure newbie" won't get q23 bow... It will use q10 bow for hunting - higher q bows and arrows means you've already got h-q hides for strings. But you can't get them if you can't kill high q game.

Dude. False. Survival ~30 is a must for any newb. ~q30 taproots and nettle are fairly common. That would already make a q20 bow with "stock" q10 bough. Small animals (rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs) also commonly higher than q10, that'll give bones for arrows. And, anyways, my math was to prove that hunting with a spear is better (and it is also not that hard to obtain, and it's much harder to lose than an arrow).

True. But it's a price of 100% not being hit unless make stupid mistake.
If I had to start from ground zero, I'd focus on getting few decent spears and hunted using cliffs, or spam-crafted a ton of crappy spears and traded them each for 1 killed animal =) But, then again, that takes some experience in game mechanics and current situation.

instead of reduce some archery stats by 10-20% and then get feedback about it, we simply remove MM from game

I suggest:
return aiming speed.
Leave as is damage
30% armor penetration would be ok considering that the small base
10% of the damage is applied to the wound. bleed. which causes 1% of their size in the second. Prior to the extraction of an arrow.
