I do have to say I can't really disagree with that after getting wrecked by a mammoth, I don't mind difficulty but I also enjoy being able to actually play and hunt.

every other animal is ez mammoths r fukn insane i had plan 2 run and get up cliff and do some opknocks on him but he dowd me b4 i got up cliff

also i agree animals shud be hard, mammoths seem like ud need like 5ppl 2 kill xddd but idk i didnt rlly get to test much on it

Around 380 melee and ~230/160 armor.
10 seconds (too little for defense or escape) and im died under mammoth.

I wish you all good luck with the new combat system...

To tell you the truth, the new combat system sounds good. I can understand why some people are upset at being unable to hunt what used to be relatively weak animals, but lets face it, it simply should not be possible to solo a mammoth or troll, hell even bears should be almost impossible to take out alone. This new system will make hunters more valuable and might even lead to the need for hunting in teams for safety. After all, haven was never meant to be easy.

It was way too difficult to keep up with reducing your openings while it's constantly pounding on you, building IP and trying to punch it with multiple colors to get a decent hit in. By the time I had increased its openings and was ready to try and get some cleaves in it was just as quickly increasing my openings as well and that's when I took that hit for 344 and sprinted off on my horse. I also built up a fair amount of IP on it just luring it around after I aggrod before I actually engaged it and it still didn't seem to help much in the end.

Its good. Mammoths were supposed to be hard.

Yeah, i agreed that. But for fair hunting in the team should be a tank. And i think

Around 380 melee and ~230/160 armor.


is enough to tank mammoths. If it is not, then all hunting will come to bow+boat.

  • There has been no ambition to make ants and whatever more difficult, and I don't think they are. Trolls and mammoths are the only things we have explicitly sought to buff. (Though some animals may perhaps incidentally be more difficult due to new attacks and whatnot).
  • A new character still starts with only five (technically six) combat effects in a preconstructed combat school, and using anything beyond that is optional. The first impression is not much more complex than the old system.
  • If soloing mammoths is no longer a thing, then I am happy about that. I am sorry if you're losing characters to them, but the update is unusually explicit in warning about precisely that.

The system actually looks surprisingly sensible on paper. Really, the only thing I'd change is making armor reduce by percentage to completely replace OHKs with this many small hits model in a way where leather armor isn't useless. Alas, there's no caps so I don't think I'll be returning mid-world to try this stuff, and I doubt I will on reset either.
