This shouldn't even have been posted, the day Kotaku or Polygon see a game dev offer a response like that will be a real shame. I can see the headline of such an article already, "Player Population bad -- White Pride good". It makes the meme even greater - by changing the name Player Population you mostly just prove the point the realm name represented, that the devs stay so out of touch with what the players really want to see.

Oh my lord this post is too much lmao

Yeah, they're little assholes once you get them into combat

Super fast and have pretty high agility for a glorified squirrel

Thankfully you can kill them with one sting.

One thing that's interesting is the ones ingame right now are brown instead of white

I remember reading a few years back that some stoats will change their coats, leading up to the winter months, from brown to white ... takes about 6/8 wks ... so maybe Loftar will change their colouring once winter sets in. Hope so. :D

Honestly the names that people often choose for kingdoms are appallingly uncreative and out of context.

Choosing a name as a joke only lasts for the few first laughs.

This game offers you a plethora of things to do, you can name your kingdom according to the shape of the landmass you are in, a bay, a mountain range, a swamp or archipelago.
Whoever enters it will definitely have respect for it and enjoy watching that message pop up on their screen.

You can also name it according to an activity you want to pursue such as mining, fishing, farming, breeding, trading.

Where are the underground dwarf strongholds? Where are the sea pirate hideouts?

This kind of thinking also applies to characters.

It's pretty easy to do, though. The "emoji set" starts at a certain value and goes up through the end of the 32 bit range. Pretty much all world languages and special characters for them are encoded in the lower 16 bits. I won't swear that there aren't odd things in that lower half (which is where the "wingding" set is IIRC) as I'm not looking through the set right this moment, but from what I recall the last I read up on UNICODE and the emojis a while back, there are well defined ranges for specific languages, characters, and such.

Did not know that, but good to know. That being said, I'm not 100% that it should be banned. Not like there isn't plenty of dumb decorative stuff you can write even with only ASCII.

What's the point of even allowing punctuation etc. in names? The only one with valid use is "-". IMO instead of blacklisting, you should whitelist allowed characters, and given the game setting these should only be those found in Germanic and Slavic alphabets.

Not like that still stops people from naming things 'o-o' or '8iiiiiiiD'.

Agree 100% and I'm unsure whether it's better to leave the responsibility of keeping the game not-retarded to the players or the developers.

If I ended up in a realm named "Dank Cofefe lololol" or some shit I'd spend the rest of the game trying to destroy it.

Nnooooooo! Emojis are great! Typing >^_^< or OwO isn't nearly as good as using a nicely drawn kitty face. Likewise, the eggplant emoji is so much more elegant than 8====D. If you don't like a settlement's name, do like a viking and raid them.

I'm fine with it. If someone wants to name their kingdon :eggplant::chocolate_donut:, it's no skin off me. I just wanted to point out that if there really is a desire to block emojis or character symbols, then it's possible. The whole of the ASCII/ANSI/UNICODE system was set up to make easy manipulation of character sets, capitalization, vocalization marks, etc.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
