Ok, so there seems to be at least some consensus.

We cannot nuke selectively. We have attempted this in the past, and it doesn't work.
A rollback is a lot of work for us, and not fun for anyone involved.
The adjusted formula is probably better as such, but a bit unfair.
The old formula is somewhat crazy, but it's a level playing field.

Given all of that we have decided to simply revert to the first, higher baseline quality, formula. This means the following

  • Baseline metal qualities will be high for the remainder of this world. Who knows, this might even be fun.
  • This world has entered a more distinct experiment phase.
  • We will be taking backups before any future patches.

I would encourage you all to see the divine comedy in this.

I am very excited to see how this turns out!

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I don't understand why they cant do selective nuking. in a previous world they nuked all branch construction signs once I think.

Make q100 the new q20, add deeper levels with high q mobs and ore at each one, balance overworld animals and armours and weapons and shit accordingly.

No rollback tears, no imbalance, just more work for you guys but you fucked up so that's life. It just makes sense.
