can the levels do increasingly more damage?

like level 1 does 100damage at most
level 2: 300damage at most
level 3: 500damage
and so on, maybe have the miner helmet have hp? like 10q does 200hp so it can deflect 2 heavy hits on level 1 but not mitigate all the damage on level 2

I agree with the others above me. If you want to go completely safe, even though it requires more work, there should be a way to do this. Please make the natural layer in caves not cause cave-ins.

You can always build mine supports. Find a metal Boulder before you start mining underground to get metal for your first supports.

Could you reduce cost during the first day or two of the server? That's at least 30 minutes of waiting if you intend to start at the same time.

Keeping the costs as is will minimize abuse. Lowering will be asking for trouble

What abuse can happen during 1-2 first days of the server?

That's nearly worse than requiring ten pearls with the current fate system to start mining.

We shouldn't need to get lucky finding completely limited resources to be safe.

When you choose not to mine next to the tiles that drop dust when you break them.

Having cave walls be able to collapse without any warning negates this ability.

I enjoy the minesweeper style of mining but I agree with you there. It's obviously not so bad later on when you have actually got some metal to build supports but early game searching around in caves and mining out the first few tiles carries a pretty big risk that you could cave in on the first tile you dig.

Carpentry is a bit of a delay, but I feel it's a very mangeable one all considered.

Not to seem like an impatient fool, but any idea how much time before we can play?
