That was like half an hour ago.

That's nearly worse than requiring ten pearls with the current fate system to start mining.

We shouldn't need to get lucky finding completely limited resources to be safe.

Maybe there could be a really low range mine support that doesn't require metal.

+1 you are already hauling lumber down there if you have tin for supports.

They've closed the store again but I saw that 30 day sub costs 7$ now. Maybe thats why they closed it kappa

Agreed, this would be a good solution. I'd be okay with it costing quite a lot of wood and/or stone and having a radius of just 3 squares, because you would hopefully only have to build a few of them to find metal to then create real mine supports.

Payment Model
  • All subscription prices have been reconsidered, and are now starting at $7.
  • The store page has been updated to reflect new realities.
Customer Rewards
  • The server uptime counter has been set back one month, meaning that whatever subscriptions were active then will have been reactivated. If you bought a subscription today, on the other hand, you will effectively have bought two months. Basically the subscription time counts as if it were one month ago.
  • All Sketchbook Pages bought last world have been redistributed to their buyer's for this world.
  • Anyone who has bought anything from the store has received a Sombrero.
  • Anyone who has bought for more than $30 has received a Leprechaun's Hat.
  • Anyone who has bought for more than $50 has received a Subscription Token.
  • Anyone who has bought for more than $100 has received a Pharao's Crown.
  • The rewards are accumulating, so if you have received a Pharao's Crown you have also received the other rewards.

Updating OP.

Serious damage as in, causing death? Because in that case, I agree with others that either the walls should be guaranteed safe or we need some kind of supports that don't require metal. Otherwise what people will just do is create alts to discover nodes; even without the beacon it's a hell of a lot more convenient than somehow finding an ore boulder (I never found one personally), building a smelter near it (also requires you to construct a kiln first) and smelting until you get a bar (I've had too many 25-ore batches become 100% gneiss).

One idea posted in the Inn of Brodgar Skype chat was to have charterstones disabled when your village shield has taken damage. While this can be avoided for porting help in by having a nearby village with a charterstone, it would still prevent evacuating all your items with 0 risk. At least this way you'd have to take the items out of the village walls/claims and into a different claim to be able to charterstone them out, which leaves you open to risk.

This is actually already the case. Forgot to mention.

Charter Stones are disabled if a village Shield goes below 48000HP. Updating OP.

As I'm hearing things, I suspect two vulnerabilities in this system:
  • Putting a pclaim over the entire vclaim protects the charter stone, as the vshield is never damaged.
  • You can have a villager/alt with a HF outside the village to port valuables over to wherever their HF is. This is even worse if porting in via charter stone is still possible, as that would allow you to carry more than a single LC + inventory out. On the other hand, if this tactic is viable people will make enough 'escape alts' to make this not matter.
