Starting the server in God mode now.

I agree, they will be put off to a certain extent. But if you think about it from Jorb and Loftar's position, they most likely won't witness any game-purchases until well into the new world (or however long it takes for major factions to hit level cap). Now I don't want to pretend like I know what their finances are but if they are supporting themselves off of this game now and giving it 100% attention then they are most likely going to want to see money from the game consistently. Whether you think that's too greedy or not well, that's up to the player. Vote with your money!

It means we're the only ones who can log in until we've fixed some things. It also means we're making progress.

Nah, I disagree. This new payment model is much more appealing. New players were more put off by the fact that they had a time limit to play. Knowing that they now have infinite play time will do worlds of good for keeping them around, and the more they play, the better the chance of them subscribing/verifying their accounts.
I usually play with 10-15 friends from steam, but they dropped the game because they did not like having to be constantly aware of their time spent on the game. They seem over the moon about this change though and are waiting for the server to come up with me now.

I see:

There are 2 hearthlings playing.

Among these, there are 107 from Russian Federation, 40 from United States of America, 35 from Ukraine, 18 from France, and 13 from United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Now that seems like a severe case of split personality.
