I think part of the problem is that the community as a whole doesn't always know about existing bugs to defend against them smartly. From my understanding of it, this be avoided by extending the claim out a few more tiles or having a second gate to walk through.

I'd dare say the entire thing is a lie. The village and their excuses. They knew full well dole was not with us, they just did this to spite him and used us as a scapegoat hoping for leniency.
