Trading, crafting, and skill based combat is what made Legacy so enjoyable.
As for bots go, yes Legacy needed improvements for making some tasks slightly less tedious.
Personally I believe that updating/expanding on Legacy would have been the better direction. The sad thing is that with the release of Hafen a lot of core factions/players left completely.

I somewhat agree - I believe the low effort trading with no relevance to distance by porting a naked alt with no hearth fire from idol to idol was retarded, now we have a player-made practically neutral pvp-free trading zone where people trade and hang out (even if the trader is offline), the only negative side is that the forum is less saturated with trading posts (they're not even needed anymore), combat was indeed better in Legacy because it was more skill based which enabled the playstyle of the "casual fighter", who has no love for grinding but still wants to pvp
But on "updating/expanding Legacy", apparently the code was just so messed up they couldn't do it. What I would prefer is had they ditched the 3D idea and just took the same Haven sprites and 2D system but recoded it, changed up some broken concepts (like they did for Hafen), and left the combat alone. That would've been nice.
As for the core factions/players leaving, tbh who cares, a game is much healthier if it constantly has an influx of new players who play the game, play the endgame for a couple of years then quit, than if the same people play the game for 10 years.
Games with a "core player group" or "core factions" feel alienating to the new player.
