I am genuinely confused by this.

Can someone explain to me how this is better than the old system?

The base % retained is reduced from 30% to 15%, but you can make sacrifices to gain back points?

Yes, basically.

EDIT: Whoops, even I misunderstood it. Confusing update but it'll be much better this way I think.

Read the OP. It's reduced because it is now calculated as if you inherited the equivalent number of LP/FEPs put into a stat, rather than straight stat numbers. 15% equivalent LP is more than 30% straight stats:

I did read it, a bit confusing on my end as a player.

But that helps explain it a bit better.
Could I in theory, regain all my stats back if I make enough sacrifices?
