The fact that none of this was communicated previously is extremely disturbing. This seems like the kind of stunt EA would pull. I have a hard time believing that in 2 years of development nobody took the time to take 15 minutes to explain the pricing scheme. Given how much time had to be spent actually setting up the shop and the games mechanics its foolish to believe that there wasn't any time to explain things to the community. Either this is intentionally predatory or its horrendously ignorant. Developers need to communicate adequately with the community in order to prevent these kind of backlashes. Changing a game from f2p to p2p is a huge change that can't simply be forgotten about until release.
As a result of these changes many players are feeling cheated or disregarded. This isn't the way you want to make players feel when you have serious player retention problems. All of the graphical updates, mechanical changes and additional content won't mean jack shit if the player doesn't feel like sticking around. This game appeals to those who want to invest a great deal of time so how does it make sense to greatly limit the amount of time available to a new player? Is that not contradictory to what players want to do? The first reaction for most people to this situation will be "They just want my money" and I have to wonder if that rough judgement has any truth to it.
If you had proposed this earlier we could have at least been able to adequately explain the situation to newer players, but as it currently stands everyone is stunned and confused. Some still think this is some sort of joke. This kind of confusion does not sit well with newer players either.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that there isn't an adequate warning in game for when you are about to run out of time. A new player just about to get into the meat of the game suddenly gets locked out of his account and told to pay up. If that isn't scummy I don't know what is. I hope you guys actually put in enough effort to warn new players.
This entire situation is baffling and frustrating. After coming back from 2 years hiatus I was looking foward to playing a game that didn't try to screw me out of my cash. I'm disappointed to say the least and I believe that feeling applies to many returning players. I could go on for ages, but as of right now the most important thing you devs can do is address the community as a whole and explain whats going on. If you can't even do that then I have no reason to believe these changes are sincere.
