Prelude: World 12

Announcements about major changes in Haven & Hearth.

1) Conserning a group of people who “was planning to return in w12 cuz of siege changes”
Literally people who play for a month, get bored, and drop the game until next world. Nothing bad with it, but making siege easy just to let such people grief, have their fun, and leave ruins behind them is just absurd. Semi-casual players, who usually stay for a long time, might not do so if their start will be ruined by groups such as person above mentioned.
2) About “responsibility of kingdoms”:
Such a joke! Players running a kingdom won’t move a finger if they’re not interested enough or not bored enough to try picking a fight. As people I asked stated (before siege system was changed again) - helping some unknown hermits, that can be located too far away to even make it in time during 20 mins of ram drying, even more if they’re not raided by some known large enemy faction, but rather smaller group of griefers? Not worth it.
I also was told that one would rather create botted villages for authority gain designed good enough not to be nuked than care about problems of random hermits and small villages.
Interaction between kingdoms and people who live in them is not good enough to assume that ruler will go around protecting their people. There’s a huge gap between people who don’t communicate much and just enjoy playing a game alone/in small groups and people who’re staying in touch via discord / ect. with larger factions near them. Forcing first group either die or contact toxic kids to protect them *with adding an easy siege* isn’t a right thing IMO.

3) +1 on “brimstone has to go somewhere” screwing hermits and casual villages who don’t play daily with previous siege system.

With all the people claiming that they represent the majority of the playerbase, would it be so unthinkable to actually have a poll on this? Then again siege mechanics can be changed in an ongoing world without causing to much hazard to general balance. So just trying them out might be a good idea. In this context I am wondering whether it would not make more sense in general to try out changes like this in the last week(s) of a soon to be cleansed world, rather than a new one. Or are there concerns from the perspective of programming against this?

Anyway. Hype for a brave new world!

Forum posters in general aren't even fully representative of the playerbase, let alone the subset of those that would respond to a poll.

I can't think of a single mechanic that would be more controversial to change mid-world than siege. People build their bases around the siege mechanics and can get screwed over quite hard by any changes to them. That's why they change at world resets and not at other times.

I'm looking forward to the new world, but I must say also disappointed to see the siege changes reverted so fast. The new siege system looked really attractive, and at the very least was going to spark some life into pvp (for better or for worse, only testing could have told). I have faith in you guys to figure it out, and really hope you reconsider just leaving it how its currently stated. On that note, the mentioned idea of a poll sounds fantastic. I would love to see how the community responds to that more so than just forum posts.

Not sure I can agree with you here brother. I dont think the awkward uncontrollable vulnerability windows are the answer.

(Also sup to my world 8 homie, Butch McNasty. Hope you're doing great my dude)

Just noticed I been playing HH for a year today. (Played Salem 3 years before that.)
How expensive would it be to open a server for JUST VOLUNTEER PLAYERS WHO HAVE ALSO PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS, to test new mechanics?
Only 1/8th the size of the big world, open for 3 months only, then reset.
Open it when W12 is 6 months old. Reset it when W12 is 9 months old.
For those who genuinely participated, the reward on test-server reset would be to xfer 1 crate to any character in W12 they chose. (With only W12 compatible items.)
(At 10 months into W12, this might give them a slight advancement, perhaps shaking up W12 a bit.)

Anyone know if we are still looking good for Friday? My fat sweaty A$$ is considering taking a half day to no life all weekend, but I imagine the server will crash a few times throughout the first couple hours, and if I remember correctly we were about an hour behind last wipe?

I don't think that exact time has been yet announced, crashes are likely (if there are no crashes, then devs have failed to deliver us enough new content) also, lag is likely, if we get same amount of players as in w12, except if loftar has made some fixes to performance that he had in mind some time ago.
