What the hell was the triple quality system supposed to be for, anyway? I didn't really quite see what the particular point was.

I have an idea:
Bi-quality system, essence is best for food and curios and substance is best for everything else (gear, etc.)

This way, you would reserve your highest essence for curios and food and highest substance for gear, essentially splitting the item into two uses. People would sell high substance quality and high essence quality raw materials separately to fill these needs.
