Well, I figured out the cause in that it was still trying to mount the root filesystem from the previous device name. Probably just a Grub issue.

Similar situation here. I work four days a week, so to wake up on my day off to find the server move started 30 minutes ago is a bit frustrating. I guess something like this is inevitable and necessary, but it's still frustrating. (Don't care about the lost subscription time myself, though it's worth pointing out that subscription services do indeed tend to give extra subscription time after significant downtimes to keep customers satisfied.)

The subscriptions do not tick while the server is down.

Indeed, it was a Grub problem, and the new server is technically running now. I think all I'll have to do now is to verify that all IP address references are correct, bring down the forums, and then repoint the DNS.

There, I think we should be on the new server now as far as the website is concerned. I'll wait a couple of minutes for DNS updates to propagate as well.

Well, I think that should be good enough for DNS updates, so I'll start her up and we'll see how things perform. Do note that the cache will start up empty, so there may still be some initial lag when everything is being loaded into the SSDs.
