There were definitely some issues with the idea, but it would have been nice to at least give it a try and then fix what actually didn't work before disrupting the longer running world(s).

If you re-read the OP, you will see that this ambition has not been abandoned.

Sorry, you're going to have to clarify this one for me. OP says the two words are going to run in parallel, but later says accounts can be linked. Does that mean the link doesn't make the accounts the same on both servers?

I'm still disappointed that W16 is now happening before seeing how the Steam server pans out. And it doesn't really change the fact that this is happening with only about 24 hours to hear feedback on the initial announcement.

Steam release is a great idea tbh, it will definitely increase the player count so adding another server/world to I guess sandbox and balance and tinker with is a smart idea. 8-)

Personally I like the idea of having all players on the same world but given the worlds are of a fixed size and who knows how many players will join from steam (probably a LOT, relatively speaking) this could be hard to modulate. :geek:

Anyway I think releasing the game on steam is a really good idea and i'm looking forward to the developments
And all the new players dropping kurskas in the water and failing to cross a river etc

Are they also going to ban all the people raging in the previous thread?

Me? Yes, I'm new. Maybe that's why I was more open to the initial announcement. I'm sure I don't see all the issues that would arise because of it. But I'm also hoping that a separate Steam server avoids some of the things community has come to accept as normal that to a noob sound like a major advantage caused by out of game features (alts, bots, etc). Then again maybe not, since it sounds like they're trying to support custom clients in the workshop.

I've only been playing the game about two weeks and posts like yours are exactly why haven't chimed in on the forum yet.

Hype train is in full motion.

I'm wondering, with this new direction, what is the plan if the Steam release starts to get traction? I think you mentioned that the server could handle roughly 2500-3000 players at once. And we usually on world wipes have 1500 or so players for the first week. I think the Steam buzz could have more possible returning players than usual and all the new Steam players on launch week.

Would you simply start up a new server/world?

Also, the more wishlists the game has, the more it will be pushed on Steams storefront on the lead up to the launch, it's possible it could be on the front page of the "Popular Upcoming" category before launch and then on the "Trending Free" category after launch, which could cause a big influx of players, especially since there is no barrier to entry with the game being F2P with optional subs. Even if it only shows up in one of those categories for a few hours, it could be a big jump in players. It's just good to have backup plans in place, as Steam players in general are very unforgiving.

Also not sure what's happening, but it doesn't show up on Steam when you search it. "Haven & Hearth" or "Haven and Hearth" have no results as other people have said as well. I also added to my wishlist, and says it's on my wishlist on the store page, but when I go to my actual steam wishlist, it doesn't show up there either.

Best of luck with the launch!
