I have to disagree with Granger. There's a game called Puzzle Pirates. They had subscription and "doubloon" (microtransaction) servers. To this day, about 15 years after it started, the doubloon server is far more active than the sub server. People like the illusion that it's worth it to waste their time instead of being forced to pay cold, hard cash to get something. And eventually they come to the conclusion, right or not, that maybe shelling out $19 for a load of microcurrency which they can freely use without wasting even more time.
And recall that PP has some of things which can easily translate into HnH experience: houses, businesses, consumables ( weapons and ammo which require doubloons), ships (all of which require doubloons), familiars and pets, clothing, even wedding rings and bangles and forget-me-not-type gifts.
