As someone who woke up this morning suddenly claimed by Player Population, my immersion appreciates the name being changed to something a little more in-universe.

Maybe they'll finish claiming the rest of my base so I don't have to cop a realm entering message every time I check my ovens :O

I don't think trolling people is a good stance for devs to take. Otherwise, why not nuke a random village every update? Haha, ur village is gone. U mad? Epic win xD xD
Or maybe a random village could be renamed "I like farts" every update and we could laugh at the villagers because they're clearly fartsniffers. Or characters could randomly have their name changed. You wake up one morning and whoops, your top warrior is now called little sissy baby. Hilarious xD

The name of the realm was made as a hilarious "epic win xD xD fuck devs" meme
They changed the simple name of a realm to something else as a "haha" back

If you think this is comparable in any tiny way to a village being randomly nuked then I don't know what to tell you.
The insanely serious and angry response from otherwise reasonable people in this thread is astonishing.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I would be mad if I had my realm name changed too ... that being said, I would never name my realm a hilarious "epic win xD xD fuck devs" meme

yall must be bored as fuck from quarantine, calling out their egos like you haven't watched their entire social presence in this game for the last decade as a series of charming parry and joust like quips between the mouth-frothing game hating autists in the community, the shublas and the kaios's

this is pretty wholesome, clean and silly fun, your games aren't ruined and if anybody's egos are looking damaged it's the people who can make a joke but can't take one

It might be funny if it was really a joke. I interpret it as a poorly thought out kneejerk response to something that made them feel bad and I'm sure several others see it that way too.

Imagine your village name suddenly being changed to something you hate. That's not fun. :(

And based upon the responses the two devs have made, there priorities have become clear.

White Pride good. Meme that has existed for years bad. 'Cause it hurts our feelings, bad.
At the end of the day, one of these are considered truly offensive.

Your feelings got hurt enough to change it, but you do not care for the people who had reasons to be truly offended by White Pride.

One of those names would get you nuked from Hetzner, the other would not.
One of those names are bad for SEO and Publicity, the other is a community meme.

And now we know which one the Devs prefer to take action on.

GG. Why spend money on a game when such terrible, arbitrary decisions are made.

To be fair, there's nothing inherently offensive about being proud of your heritage.

In the context of the game, white pride could also be interpreted to mean pride about having beautiful white cows, horses and pavement. :D

Honestly no one as far as I'm aware is mad or upset over it all. It could have been a nice "haha wait a week and I'll let you pick a new name". That's pretty much what I told anyone who asked me about the name change. I wasn't worried about not being able to get a second chance at a name, the dev's will have their fun and so shall we. The unfortunate part is I started to read the thread after making those comments to people and I don't feel mad or upset, by the end of it all I feel an immense amount of second hand embarrassment in how they handled it within this thread. Just a yike not even worthy of an s.

I have no idea why you would interpret it that way. Too few smileys and XDs in our posts?

I really don't believe Jorb and Loftar changed the realm name because they were upset, I think it was supposed to be a tongue in cheek jab back at PP, the intention being for everyone to have a laugh over it ...

Unfortunately it back-fired because of the existence of the White Pride realm, which players genuinely found offensive, and Jorbs response to that just gave a bad impression and worsened the situation.

@Ants, it's a weed, not expensive female underwear ... :)

Because the game is still good and they continue to develop it?

imagine believing you have the power to deeply insult a grown man with a family and job and life by naming something silly and memey in his hobby game project

An expensive bra made out of weeds, you say?

I think we need sprucebras in the game.

The unfortunate reality of this situation can be viewed in the first page of the thread where there is an entire Wikipedia entry on the term alone. While it could be used in such innocence, much like some religious symbol that has been hijacked from its original purpose by a group associated with the very term you are trying to defend there, it now stands for something that has a negative connotation.
