Things I am speculating from the trailer, (Regarding realms / fast travel)
First time you see the new "Cairns". It's unclaimed, which would possibly mean they are now predifined persistent spots spawned in the world?
This would possibly mean you now have regions in the world, which can be claimed by realms / faught over. (Regions could also be named for more emphesis towards localization)

Second time you see the new "Cairns", it's now been claimed, waving a flag. Now realms can have a coat of arms, that will display on the cairns/regions they claim?

The third time you see the new "Cairns" it seems to be under attack. It idicates this with the spear, which I assume will also display the coat of arms of the realm attackers in the little flag on it.

Finally the last time you see the new "Cairns", you see somebody hovering, (The current logout animation). But it's also possible that these new carins are part of/are the new fast travel system. And this animation is the character meditating to travel to another point, possibly another Cairn that is claimed by the realm.

If the new realms are region based, where you fight over predefined regions. I hope they have a good bit of incentives to do so, such as regions giving different buffs, so by holding that region, your realm gets a new buff.
Would mean there is actually a reason to fight over realms/regions as the devs kept pointing out multiple times that realms would be the major driving factor for pvp.
If there isn't any regions buffs and it's not region based, then maybe these cairns act as sort of a fast travel point for people within the realm. Which would mean expanding your realm would give you bonuses to having more areas to fast travel to?
Or maybe both?
Idk that's just what I picked up on from the trailer, but I'm probably overspeculating.
