Any dragon worth his salt would do anything for his gold-producing village.

This!!! me and the other player in my town were talking the other day about how much we would like the ability to befriend the Dryads, or maybe befriend Direwolves who can defend your base when you go offline. Produce enough gold tribute and you can get a motherfucking dragon to live in your town??? YES YES YES.

I think the dwarves also liked the idea of smaug living with them, until he for the most part ate them.

I support this part.

Forget gold. Dragons like food more. All creatures prefer food more. Gold just means more food for humans. for dragons, it's a trophy saying how rich the knights and dwarves... and towns... they ate were.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Dragons use gold and gems as a bed to sleep on, bigger the dragon bigger the hoard. That one nuggest of gold might pay a youngling to eat your enimes cows for a week.... but you would haft to give a kingdoms worth to an adult... they gota nest you know.

Just as the cattle of the surrounding villages (and the occasional villager) nourish the dragon's body, the gold absorbs and reflects the dragon's dreams as he sleeps, and nourishes his mind and soul. As a dragon that doesn't eat would waste away, so would a dragon without a hoard devolve into a mindless unmagical beast.

Dragons (and other mega-beasts) should be player controlled.
