IMO the q node center should be the same as place for well with minimal materials. This way you can scan for the node center by dowsing but to see an actual quality you have build the well. In the meantime you would at least know that 46 ropes is definitely not the node center and use dowsing as much as possible

Or maybe it is already like that and we were just unlucky

Water table heights (determining the materials needed to build a well) and water quality nodes are unrelated.
