Any hints on how much of an improvement it offers? Or is it too difficult to tell / going to spoil the surprise?

Well, it depends heavily on the circumstances of what is being rendered. It's also not like it's the end of all optimization. It should help quite a lot in many common cases, though. I'll detail the changes when I put it up for testing, of course.

Mind you, though, that Jorb may have exaggerated slightly just how done it is. I expect to have it working either later tonight or tomorrow, but you never know what might happen along the way.
