Putting house sign is a basic fighting mechanic to block people. Instead of that, you should make it so not fully soaked house take damage from catapult instead of the claim shield.

not quite sure about whether people would use the dark effigy often, since it requires ashes (hard to produce sometimes) + mandrake roots + requires a lot of attention. It could be a nice curio for the noobs if the attention requirement wouldn't be that high, but I doubt the advanced players would waste time on it.

Maybe, it could be used as a nidbane fetter as well? Like a voodoo doll

yeah, latest curio added are not at all so good as they seems: they often are taxing both in attention and, much more, in experience points and often in materials too.
