No reason for a reset on that, no reason for a reset on this.

Anyone who's written code for more than ten minutes knows that a "reason" is not a requirement for something to screw up or lose compatibility, or what have you. The most minute, meager dependency between client and server could have an immense effect. Stomping on my hopes is BULLYING by the way, as is displaying my hidden text for the unwashed masses to see. Tsk.
To clarify a bit more, my desire for a fresh world stems from the perceived gap in level between myself and other players. If I start anew today, there are people with hundreds if not thousands of hours into this particular world, making me feel small and insignificant. If I'm playing on a world where people have at most a few dozen hours ahead of me, that feeling of being behind is immensely reduced, even though people can still kill me in an instant if i run into the wrong person.
Opinions and stuff.

Edit: i do love exploring and looting long-forgotten ruins of bases in older worlds, a fresh world lacks that. So I'm not saying I'll NEVER PLAY if the world isn't fresh

Me too. We should do so much more with them. Make them go haunted and animal-infested, and whatnot.

Bully reporting in. The optimization rewrite has absolutely zero correlation with a world reset. :)

Have slime spawns been looked into?
Also they destroy ore stockpiles way too easily

You should probably post this in the client thread ... have you updated the client?
It may be connected to this;

viewtopic.php?f=47&t=58775#p751995

Which has been worrying me as it never got a reply, hopefully it's just to do with updating the clients. :)
