Legacy forum restored

Postby loftar » Wed May 23, 2018 8:41 pm

I believe that I just restored the threads and posts from the Legacy forums that went mysteriously missing when we moved the forums to the new server with the launch of World 8. The method for doing so is somewhat heavy-handed, though, and I'm not entirely sure it meshes with how phpBB wants data to be handled, so please tell me if you find any forum oddities that may have been caused by it. Also please do so rather quickly, because the only thing I can really do in case I've broken something important is to restore from a backup taken right before the restoration, meaning everything posted thereafter will be lost.

Otherwise, please enjoy the old posts being back!

In case anyone asks: No, I've still no clue why they went lost in the first place.

Pras!

Doesn't look like anything's broken at first glance, I think it's fine.

Sure did. I'll admit I mostly just forgot about it most of the time, but for the times that I did remember it, I've been a bit paranoid about it, worrying about breaking the forum in some other way, mostly because of the mysterious way in which it broke in the first place. It was generally weird when we transferred it from the old server; we had to try the rename of the forums (into the hearth vault) many a time, because it happened several times that entire subforums just disappeared mysteriously and other strange things. That just generally left me with the impression of phpBB that it does weird stuff which I don't understand.

Just for the statistics-minded among you, the number of missing posts was 422,601, and the number of missing threads was 28,327.
