Let me just say the total cost of this upgrade was less than $100, and while I may not need a 1TB drive, I can't get by with smaller.* Believe me when I say I can't afford such things in my life at the present time, not if I want to eat or feed children, anyway. Replacing the drive is an unexpected expense that, thankfully, I can delay a few weeks, maybe couple months.
*Smaller isn't any cheaper, anyway. a 1 TB drive is still $50-60, a 2 is $70, and you can get 4 for under $120. I found a 500 and 700 GB desktop drives, both were $40-50. It's just the old hardware that nobody wants to liquidate because it will eventually sell off at regular prices. The last time I recall drive prices dropping fast was the transition from FAT32 to NTFS as the majority file system. I'm glad to see one of the "OS sized" drives (120 GB) was listed for $30 this last week.
Complete change of tact... we all know resolutions don't really work, but sometimes it's enough to push the ship in the right direction, so, here's mine:
Get something published on one of my games I've had "laying about" for years. They say all it takes is making that first step, and the next are easier. (Unless it's a diet... then the cravings hit and you're done for.) I'm not sure what, exactly, but even just posting the start of something is a good first step. If people come along and start liking it and wanting to watch development, even better.
