Jeez, it's three posts further the thread...

My naïve guess would be that there's just a greater constant write load to the disks due to the combination of higher user numbers and larger map, but I'm not sure that explains the difference compared to World 8, which had somewhat comparable initial user numbers and a much, much larger map.

Didn't W8 start with spawning only in the central grid? I remember it being quite crowded at the beginning.
W11 seems to have distributed the hearthlings over the full map, which would mean that more minimaps are active...

It did, but many people branched out pretty quickly rather far away, and conversely, the W11 map has quite a bit of "dead space" in the oceans.

Also the amount of shit spawning around the map on average is probably higher after all those updates through the years, meaning more things going on per square grid. Just a guess of course...

I wouldn't expect that to affect the I/O, though.

Then maybe caused by questing being the meta these days, I would guess that back then most people hung more around their bases. With that many characters traversing the world from one questgiver to the next I would expect a higher churn on map sections.

That might not be an entirely unreasonable guess, admittedly.

It's Ansgar, after the Apostle to the North.

Thanks for the cultural insight, blew my mind that i was born exactly 1189 years later and one of my previous chars was named Ásgeirr, wich is the old Norse for Ansgar

Next time it won't be a warning but a ban!
