Game Development: Wind in the Willows

Postby jorb » Sun Jan 17, 2021 9:17 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • As the sap rises with the onset of Hearthland spring, a new wind plays in its leafy crowns. Trees are now gently animated.
  • Added "Prune", food. Dry Plums on a Herbalist Table.
  • Added "Sit Down", emote. Have a seat, any time, any place!
  • Added "Green Thumb", hearth magic. Cause a stunted tree to begin growing again.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Pushed important changes related to future implementations to the "old" client branch. Custom client makers supporting old clients are encouraged to merge.
  • Recipes should now indicate their required tools.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • Fixed a UI-scaling bug by which combat value icons would be displayed in original resolution in combat descriptions.
  • Rock Dove, Magpie, Quail, Ptarmigan and Seagull Feathers now have a proper terrain object.
  • Yulestar, Elven Lights, and Starfish can now be hung on walls.
  • Grave Cairn now displays runes only when someone is buried in them.
  • Craft Recipes now display the name of the item being crafted in their title.
  • Dryads now have a fall variant.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Items, for the fair price of $9, is the "Spider Farmer's Hat".

Store Description wrote:Image$9 Spun in the finest silk by tireless eight-legged weavers, and dressed to their tastes.

All Gold & Silver subscribers have been awarded the "Spider Farmer's Hat", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------
  • Again urging any custom client maker who wishes to stay relevant to get with the new rendering times. Support for the old resources will be dropped at some point.
  • We are working toward object controlled objects, quite simply. The server protocol changes are largely complete, and will otherwise progress in tandem with work on object controlled objects.
  • Time to... like us on Facebook?
  • Time to... follow us on Twitter?

UPDATE YOUR CLIENTS... might be a good idea.

Enjoy!

Were the changes to bad cam intended or an accidentally released test?

Its strange to me that for all this time bad cam has been called an "unsupported camera mode" and now all of the sudden changes are being made to it.
More to the point, the fact that it has so much rotation/movement/zoom smoothing makes it basically into ortho cam. I avoided ortho cam for this very reason, as I find camera smoothing of any kind very nauseating and tiring over long sessions of play.

If you guys are planning to make a new camera mode I'm all for it, though I'm sure I'd prefer not to use it personally. Can we atleast get an option to disable this smoothing, or to go back to the old bad cam? :?

Yeah what was the smoothing change all about? Feels like a new game.

Guess I'll have to upgrade this old laptop! Getting major fps drops when walking through forests after the update, not that it matters too much since my place is at my pond on my fishing boat
