Game Development: Burying Roe

Postby jorb » Sun Oct 02, 2022 10:09 pm

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • Added "Roe Deer", a type of deer. Males with horns, and females without. Spawn in forests, and some grasslands.
  • Added "Burying the Dead", quest. Whenever you inherit, you will begin with a quest to bury the bones (skull/body/the whole) of your immediate ancestor, and you will have quest arrows pointing in their direction.

Key Fixes
-----------------------
  • Hopefully fixed the longstanding problem that it was impossible to click meshes below water surfaces. This can cause some strangeness when clicking through multiple water surfaces (e.g. by a waterfall), but that seems like a fairly rare and perverse use case anyway, so this should generally be unproblematic. Let us know that it works!
  • Nerfed "Go for the Jugular" by switching one of the opening it gives to not be self-reinforcing. Now gives 15% "Cornered" (red) and 10% "Reeling" (yellow) rather than 15% "Off Balance" (green), and 10% "Cornered". Nerfing was insisted upon by certain parties, but I truly do not know if needed, or good. Feel entirely free to talk me out of this and into other changes.
  • Fixed a bug by which the order of alchemical inputs could matter when determining the negative effects of elixirs. Keep an eye out for these types of bugs.

Small Fixes
-----------------------
  • "Silkworm Egg"s can now be used as fishing bait.
  • You can now put "Jellyfish" in "Creel"s.
  • Pearls can now be put in purses.
  • Pearls can now be used to gild rings.
  • Forgot to mention last week, but alchemy recipes now show the various bench tools (scales, retort, &c) required to make them.
  • Lack of strength no longer prevents you from building "Mine Pyre"s, but rather warns you about it.
  • "Wilderness Skis" now use the Cape, rather than Backpack, slot, much like "Coracle"s and "Primitive Tent"s.
  • "Reindeer" now give a cut of fat when butchered.
  • Mystic quests to do X-Y-Z "in the rain" should now count snow as well.
  • Increased the length of the window to do quest X-Y-Z "at dawn".
  • "Gilding Stone"s & "... Leaf"(ves) can now be used to gild both rings and garments.
  • Ancestors (bless them) should no longer ask for dungeon keys. Reported here.
  • You can no longer put burning "Dugout"s in object storages (e.g. "Cart").
  • The loading interface for "Snekkja"s no longer says "Wagon".
  • Fixed a small bug by which "Storm of Swords" could get confused when used at perverse distances, (think person in Knarr hitting Cachalot).
  • Fixed a graphical bug with the "Greenhouse" not having a proper internal floor. Also reduced its bounding box ever so slightly to prevent it from checking tiles beyond its footprint when placing.
  • Added some debug printing to hopefully catch the animal despawn bug in action.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $9 is the "A Friend for Dinner".

Store Description wrote:Image$9 This hat visited a friend for dinner, for some fava beans and a nice chianti. Memories of the night are otherwise foggy.

All Gold subscribers have been awarded the "A Friend for Dinner", free of charge.

In the Pipe
-----------------------
  • Thinking a fair bit about making winter a smoother experience.
  • Again urging any custom client maker who wishes to stay relevant to get with the new rendering times. Support for the old resources will be dropped at some point.
  • Our primary development direction is toward object-controlled-objects.
  • Time to... like us on Facebook?
  • Time to... follow us on Twitter?

Enjoy!

All the ring stuff raised my hopes that you implemented my suggestion here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=72132&hilit=rings
The most actively maintained Haven and Hearth Wiki (Not guaranteed to be up-to-date with all w14 changes.)

Basic Claim Safety (And what you’re doing wrong) (I recommend you read it in it's entirety, but TL:;DR: Build a Palisade.)

Combat Guide (Overview, PVE, PVP) (Tells you how to try and escape, and make it less likely to die when caught.)

Increased the length of the window to do quest X-Y-Z "at dawn".

Hahahah, I got a quest that has "dance at dawn" just before the server went down, nice.

Also cool to see a deer with female and male variant.

Wonder what gildings pearls give...

Can the new deer be used in "deer meat" recipes? And by extension reindeer?
