Just a comment, I just harvested a few things, got a bunch of q1 things but I'm wondering if the results will show NEXT generation?

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

I'll re-post this from some other thread:

Oddity wrote:[21:09:01] <loftar> Hmm... I can't exactly *verify* that the farming bug is fixed...
[21:09:05] <Drao> so what did the server restart fix?
[21:09:38] <loftar> It was supposed to fix it.

[21:15:08] <loftar> It *should* be fixed. :)
[21:15:19] <loftar> Please do test. I might just have had a stroke of bad RNG. :)

[21:29:15] <loftar> I am anxiously awaiting thy results.
[21:29:46] <Drao> willing to trade q10 carrot seeds for any q poppy seed
[21:29:56] <Zamilpen> Is the -5 to +2 range intended?
[21:30:39] <loftar> Partly. I changed the farming mechanic to the [-5,2] range when the crops' quality is greater than the soil quality.
[21:30:41] <Spacecas> my results seems to be the same..but my farming is not very high so I ma not complaining..
[21:30:48] <loftar> Below that, the normap [-5,5] range should used, however.
[21:31:26] <Oddity> Should we be using plants planted after you fixed it to test?
[21:31:34] <Zamilpen> I'm still getting constant -5,2
[21:31:41] <loftar> Nah, everything happens at harvesting.

After it looked like it wasn't fixed after all:
[21:38:00] <loftar> Oh well, I need to sleep. I'll go on debugging tomorrow.

That's a really stupid way to implement soil quality into farming.

When planting a q91 seed, there is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE between planting it in q10 soil or q90 soil. How stupid.

At least make it a softcap of (farming+soil)/2 or something.

I would agree with a better mechanic - it basically induces significant loss instead of a softcap which induces lots of loss in wide differences but better evenness in closer differences.

That's really depressing.

Would you rather have a hardcap+4 in disguise of a softcap instead?

That's pretty much what a softcap is, actually - you'll never see quality rise above +5 in a softcap, if enough iterations are used.

I hate to jump to conclusions but the farming glitch may be gone.
I harvested a group of q1-q3 Hops I planted in a junk field for LP, as well as some q1-q3 wheat, and a q1 flax. From the flax I got 4,6,1, from the Hops I'm getting mixtures of 5 and 6 with at least one 1 per harvest group, a few groups of all 1s, but a lot with 4s and up. Now, my highest Hops I have gotten is a 7, but that's still 4 higher than 3 which is the highest seed q I planted in this field.

My wheat is pretty much the same, 5-7 on the high end and 1-3 on the low. Given that at a minimum of increase, the q3 seeds increased to q7, I'd say the "farming bug" may be resolved. I'm concerned that I didn't see any 8s, even though it should be +5 at a max and at least one q3 seed should have resulted in a q8 child, but so far I'm reserving my conclusions other than to say: It may be fixed.

Sorry I was meaning a softcapped growth but a hardcap in disguise.
