Disappearing Trees?

Postby Frelock » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:08 am

I started a tree farm at the beginning of the week, with three trees of above-normal quality (the highest was q32). I watched them develop, and finally the q32 pine became fully-grown. When I logged in today to check on the others' progress, all three trees were missing. They were on a claim (not set to allow kin) that was surrounded by a palisade (palisade inside the claim, of course). The palisade was completely intact. The gates were firmly locked, and the only keys were in the container inside the palisade in which I left them. I had also left my Loftar's Lembas in a container, and it was still there. There were no crime scents by the time I arrived (I have 12 exploration, but stopped playing H&H for 48 hours due to my mouse breaking). One other thing, the trees were planted a tile away from a ridge.

I will admit, it is possible that a thief/griefer somehow knew I had high quality trees, knocked a hole in my palisade, chopped them down, removed the stumps, hauled away all the lumber, re-built the palisade, didn't go through my few baskets to find my most valuable item (which I'm now keeping in my inventory), and did so in such a time frame that I never saw the scents. However, that scenario seems unlikely.

Is it possible that there is some bug in the code that would wipe planted trees? Or can planted trees decay? Can a person chop a tree from one tile away on the other side of a ridge? Or do I just have an extremely covert thief on my hands?

I think your claim was made ineffective in whatever was affecting the claims here: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2175

I walked by your place, and did not see your claim. All the trees that were on my claim were cut (and many of the hearthfires destroyed), so it seems plausible that someone actually did what you suggest.

Did you by any chance have a macro running? I had some fun with that. :D

I stumbled across a few worker drones, and got angry, so I deleted a few objects. Made the drones wander aimlessly. If this shit gets in my face I might decide to stop it. I do not support macroing. These players were not punished in any other way. They have kept their ill gotten gains, but their crime tools, some mulberry trees the drones were eating from, and some looms they were gaining LP from constructing, should be considered forfeit. If the drones had been stupid enough to drown, I would not have done anything to revive them. Gameplay needs to be fixed, or otherwise macroing will be happening. I'm not going to hunt for it, but I do not have to like it.

I grind my bricks and potatoes by hand, I believe that was how the game was meant to be played. And if you macro, you do so at your own risk. I'm not out there looking for it, but I do play the game, you know. Also, if you build ovens on the water, or construct private villages by using alts, I might decide to sacrifice those ovens to the Grand Fork (The cursor for the Godly delete action is a fork, used for eating things in the world. It's right under the "Venganza!", menu, which looks like The Flying Spaghetti monster. Hotkey z-e. Left of the "Eye of Jorb" identification tool, which looks like the Eye of Sauron.), or dissolve that village. If you abuse cabins by craftily constructing longhouses for the vengeful god to delete, in which you render yourself inaccessible, I might do something about that to. If you plow the ground in a cave, to be able to construct your hearth there, I will find you, and undo what you have done wrong. Attack my God avatar, and I might decide to hurt you.

I have used my god privileges to protect my alt once. Against an attempted blackmail that would have been successful against anyone other than me. To be fair, the person took an unfair interest in provoking my settlement, because he knew jorb was playing that character. I have also accepted my alts death at the hands of a player once, char "Farbror" died at the hands of char "Raephire", and I've accepted having a rich settlement with silk production raided. I generally do not cheat.

I have also used my alt to, mildly provoked -- they were messing with my cart on my claim, which is how I got a theft scent -- attack and kill other players. No cheats were involved, nor would they have been. They were not weak players by any standard. I went in, not knowing that I would win. I was going for tradition at the time, so I did risk manage. (The PvP was, btw, some of the most intense fun I've had in the game to date. My heart was beating @ 120 BPMs, and I was literally high. Winning, and plundering the fort. Wow.)

Consider it an announcement of a change in policy if you want to, I don't.

Yeowza, godpwnt.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

Are you the reason my temporary village poofed? I had made a village with my main but decided to go somewhere else, and instead I was going to have my alt hang out there and do stuff, so I had my alt drop a claim. I logged in a couple days ago and half my palisades were gone, my claimpost and (I think, I wasn't counting) the LP from it was gone, all my Lembas bread was gone, my saplings were gone, my runestone was gone, and some other items were gone.

I thought maybe my claim bugged out somehow and thieves broke in, but I was confused because they caused a LOT of vandalism, and somehow they made a runestone disappear. I walked around for like a half hour trying to find it, but it was just gone. I mean what kind of thief knocks down a dozen palisades and crawls off with a runestone? If that was you I'd like to know.

I wouldn't think he is. There appears to have been some weird rollback bug in conjunction with my installation of the new account server, but it seems to have rolled back very selectively and weirdly. Frustratingly enough, I haven't at all managed to figure out what happened.
