Personal Problem, but might need attention...

Postby Nogetsu » Sun Jan 03, 2010 8:54 am

I have a problem with my net and Haven and Hearth. They don't work well together when I enter buildings or need to load a new area. But the main problem is entering the buildings while carrying stuff. Anything that fills a Box and makes it unpassable is destroyed when my Net makes Haven and hearth crash and log out on me. This had been discussed ages ago, its a personal problem I know...

But the real part of this report is that only a while back did I carry a Log into my cabin to avoid the previous mentioned problem, to avoid losing my nearly finished bed to a forced log out while carrying it I decided to build it all inside, the log I was carrying dropped to the ground when I was Forced out, coming back on I noticed it was still there due to logs not filling a collision box. So I carved it up into blocks. Mistake. Three of the blocks now sit too close to the Door Sprite that I can not pick them up...

So unless things decay inside I will have these three blocks sitting there and stuff. Like I said in the title, Personal problem, but might need some attention...

THat's not a problem with you're net but it might be a problem with Java. Have you made sure you're using the latest version and the latest drivers for your hardware. Also, what OS are you using?

And yes the blocks will disappear on their own.

Well I believe its my net, its got shit speed due to Aussie Broadband, and well I am not allowed to upgrade it...
It also causes the site I am looking at to Crash completely...

As far as I know I am using the most uptodate Java, and OS is XP. Drivers I think are 2008 models of what ever they are, friend built mine for me...

Good to hear the blocks will disappear...

'right click "my computer" and properties'

Look for '32 bit' or '64 bit'

Others have reported the same problem, and to be honest, I just don't understand it at all. According to the reports, it does indeed seem that people's link to the Internet breaks sometimes when entering or exiting a house, and it seems to not be a problem with the computer used to play Haven, but rather with the Internet connection itself somehow. If it's a problem with the modem or the ISP I have no idea, and I have no idea how it could happen at all, either; but it does seem to happen.

I mean; really... It's not as if entering or exiting a house even does anything particularly bandwidth-demanding. Outside the transfer of object data (which is just normal anyway), I might imagine that it sends at most four packets of map data and when entering a house those should be very small packets indeed, since the map data is gzipped. Transfer of two simultaneous packets of map data is normal anyway while walking over the terrain, and I don't see how those extra two packets would be able to make any difference. To begin with, I don't see why a packet burst, even if it were a really heavy one, would bring down an Internet link.

Why not try and collect some statistics? Nogetsu, what kind of link do you have? If you have the ability to flood-ping something with your operating system, does anything similar happen if you flood-ping your upstream gateway with varying packet sizes? (On Unix systems, you can use "ping -fs SIZE HOST" to flood-ping a HOST with packets of size SIZE. I dunno if Windows' ping command has the same functionality.)

I really gotta buy an Idiots Guide to PCs. All I know is programs and basic knowledge not all that what you just said, I understand what you mean though, just not how to do it...

Sigh...
