You sure that what you're trying to chop down is a tree? Provide a screenshot of the object in question.
I remember that when I saw some aurochs walking around for the first time, I though they were some sort of tentacle monsters straight out of hell, that boars (when facing to the front) were hamsters and someone else died for thinking a bear was a pile of wood.
