What if there was never a hit to begin with?

Aggro has lasted much longer than 20 minutes in my experience. And I've walked across the map with ?s still on my screen.

I think it has to do with your combat stance or whatever it's called. Must be set to peaceful before the fox walks away.
The ones who see things differently.

Only way I've ever noticed this happening is when the animal despawns. An animal trapped in town will tend to stick around for an extremely long time as there are always people to see it.
