FFVI is epic. The story was awesome, there may have been better stories but I haven't played those games. Admittedly, I stopped playing anything post 7 except LSSC & 2 which I haven't really gotten around to finishing either. Thing about FF6 is that as awesome as its story is, it not it's best feature by far. The depth of the cast of characters memorable for all time. As I said before, it's replay value is infinite. I will NEVER get tired of playing that game over and over again like a 6 yo with disney movies. Except that after I grew up....I continue to play this game over and over again.

Well maybe Jackard cares to eleborate which games had better stories. Two come to my mind that were pretty awesome: Bahamut Lagoon and Seiken Densetsu 2. Anything else? Because I would love to play those games if they are out there.

€dit: Saga Frontier 2 and maybe even the Suikoden Saga, but those I liked more for their general flair than their specific storylines.

Well I grew up with those, although I am not a big fan of the whole japano mania sweeping the planet (bit too old I guess). But there are not too many non JRPGs out there I would favor over those good old Square Soft/Enix games. There is a german trilogy called "Das schwarze Auge" (based on a pen and paper system) which was pretty awesome, but I doubt anyone here knows those.

You would be surprised... RPG Codex should give you a hint.

no righteous man raises his hand against the innocent,
a man need only strike another to make him evil."

I guess jackard is right that those rpgs all use the same sheme. A simplified good vs ultimate evil thing, but then again good developers like Square always managed to give those games so much more depth in the whole character developing/sidequest thing. Those games were just created with love you know ;-)

Hard to change ones view though, when you started your own developement as a gamer with a certain genre. I never even touched first person rpgs, because it, well it just doesn't feel right.

Oh ok loved Baldurs Gate 1, but it went downhill from there. I don't really know if there were good black isle games before or anything mentionable after, if you leave all those D&D based games aside. Haven't been playing rpgs for years and then H&H came along ;-)
