I was getting that same error "Weird version number on on gfx/hud/equip/male/kaka (1 > 0)" and it seems there's a quick and dirty workaround if you just comment out these lines in Resource.java

}

That probably won't be much help to people who aren't able to easily build their own copy of the client unfortunately. Maybe I'll upload a patched copy of Ender if it isn't fixed soon...
