Trying to get the game running

Postby Dondy » Tue Jul 21, 2009 11:14 pm

By now over half the time when I try to run the game it doesn't. I click on play and first a white box flashes too quick to read, then the colophon, then the "do you trust this source" box comes up. I click run and..... Nothing.

When nothing happens I try again in two or three minutes. Sometimes I have to spend ten or fifteen minutes trying to get access. I originally thought this mostly happened when I tried to log back in again so my character could warp from RoB to his hearth or back, but now I see it happens just as often when I try to start up a new playing session.

Because this can happen when my computer is essentially idle I don't believe this is the 100% CPU usage problem. Because I get a "cannot connect to the server" screen when the server is down I don't believe this is happening when the server is down. I haven't kept a tally but I would estimate about 2/3rds of the time I cannot run the game or connect.

I get the same thing, but less often. It's more common when I'm launching from firefox than when launching from internet explorer. In my case, killing a few processes often helps, and rebooting always cures it for a while. I'd been assuming it was a resource leak of some kind - since the only time I completely shut down my web browsers is when I reboot. But that doesn't match Dondy's experience.

I think it was worse before the most recent dev session - more correctly, it got worse after one dev session, then better again after the next one. But it might just be related to what else I had been doing on my PC.
