Waiting for Aggros

OK, I've been told repeatedly that if one waits 20 minutes, animals that are hunting you forget about you, and you can log off back to your hearth. The last time this didn't work, I was told the problem was that I hadn't cliecked on the crossed sword beside their icon. Great, this time I tried that - and it's been half an hour, with repeated log outs, always finding myself back in the same spot when i tried to come back on.

Now I'm being told "oh, they have to not be able to see you"

How about publishing precisely how this is supposed to work, so I can determine whether or not it's actually buggy? Because at this point I fear the ONLY way to break an animal's lock on you is (a) to enter a house or mine or (b) have someone kill it.

It's not actually supposed to work that way at all. Fighting relations are supposed to time out a lot faster than that; I just haven't implemented that yet. The "de-aggroing" that you speak of is a result of the animals despawning after an in-game hour of not having been seen by anyone. Thus, your actions alone don't really matter: if someone else saw the animal during that time, they will have refreshed its removal timer.
