Putting decayed objects in boats repairs them?

I just realized anything you put in a boat that is decayed at all, and lift it back out, is fully repaired. I've tried it with chests, plows, chairs, and tanning tubs, they all do this. Sorry if my searching failed.

It's just a graphic glitch. The item is still as broken as before. It does look prettier though.
