Splash: Recv failed

I'm getting a "Splash: recv failed" error on running the java from the play button and the install from the PAQ.

Dito, I can't run the game. I get the error, the splash screen is there for a bit, then goes away and nothing happens.

When i try to start the game nothing happens and it just sits and uses up memory.

I've been getting this bug, just as Solaran and Laremere have described, but I just keep double-clicking the icon and eventually it goes through. Sometimes it works on the first try, other times it takes over a dozen tries. This is with the download version (I haven't used the 'play' button in a while).

I get this with both the online version and the download version. I'm lucky I stubbornly continued trying, or I would never have had the opportunity to play this game...

I've never seen this problem, but this many reports seems to indicate that it cannot be a mere fluke. I'll try to look into it.

Just to clarify what exactly happens, I click play, the H&H logo appears.
I get this error message

And then after a while the logo disappears again and nothing happens...

it's a rare bug mostly with comodo, related solely to the splash screen, and i'm getting it 100% of the time now.
using javaws.exe -Xnosplash works but is rather bothersome since you need to dl the jnlp.
