Crashing to Desktop? Have an Nvidia card? Solution.

Postby Cassial » Sun Jan 23, 2011 6:53 am

After spending the entire day trying to figure out why the hell my HnH wouldn't run, I finally figured out that it had to do with my Nvidia card settings and NOT java.

The solution is to go into your Nvidia control panel, which can be found in your start menu.

Under the header 3D settings, click on "manage 3D settings"

Now, look for the option "Threaded Optimization". If it is set to auto, then this is the source of the problem. Change it to off.

Apply the changes and voila! Good to go!

Thank you very much, I crashed after trying to toggle fullscreen and kept getting Java SE errors after that, and this solved my problem completely!

Glad I could help. I've been seeing a lot of people with this same problem recently, so I was excited to share my solution when I finally found it.

Actually setting it to ON works just as well, it seems the crashes only happen if it's on Auto.

No idea if there are any benefits either way tho.

Heh, I actually had just posted this in my thread asking for help. I emailed Bjorn about it and got the same answer. Didn't realize that would affect it working.

And to the above poster, threaded optimization allows applications to take advantage of using all cores in a multi-core processor. It says it if you hover over the option. Mostly, it's good for CPU-intensive games and applications, I think.

But yeah, glad someone did find a solution.

Same game would crash instantly. I wonder how you figured this out.

Problem: I use intel, not Nvidia (Criticise me later), and that isn't one of the options under 3d settings.
