I was taming an aurochs and it KO'd me after 3 tames. It hit me earlier for 16 SHP, so I didn't think it would be life threatening. Waiting for my SHP to recover, I went and grabbed my cart so I could fill up some barrels of water and bring them back to my camp. To my surprise, the aurochs was still following me... perhaps the process hadn't reset? Maybe it wouldn't aggro me again since it already beat the crap out of me? But I was wrong, it did aggro me again. I ran to the water and was almost at the safe spot, then it KO'd me. Then it killed me.
So, I remade my character. Inherited my ancestor. I noticed I still had access to all my skills/options... but on my skill screen, it only displayed the default skills under my current skills. Perhaps I would need to relog to refresh it? I hotkeyed the skills first and then went for it. I was hopeful, but my hopes were shot down when I came back to find the options gone.
So, my full change ancestor had 408652 LP and my reward was 20000 LP with some pitiful skill values. That 25% thing is pretty misleading when you come out with less than 5% of your original character's value. I got that far only abusing the hunting system on two or three brief trips and without excessive grinding, so I'm not very pleased about this.
Anyhow, the bug is that I had those options available, even if falsely so. I didn't see if I could use them before logging out, but I can't use them from my hotkeys after logging back in (i.e. I need to actually have the skill).
I'm not sure if this is also a bug, but when I looted my dear ancestor and took the rope from his inventory, the aurochs aggro'd me. I dropped the rope on land and a yellow 0 appeared above its head (killing the taming process, I guess). I remained out of its reach and tried to deaggro it, but it was persistent until I walked along the shore to get out of its sight.
