The point is to prevent blocking animals in and getting even easier kills, like we did in world 3. As it is, they'll only do that if you block their pathing in some way, like by being in a boat in water. If you are fighting them in melee range or at the same time, they will not have to repath and destroy objects in their path. They also will not destroy objects if they are running away. Only in the circumstance that the object is potentially acting as an obstacle will they break things.
It is a minor annoyance at best and only applies if you are being super lazy.
Just so you know, you never had any claim to the corpse. A dead animal is a dead animal, whether or not you killed it or how you killed it. If it's destroyed, carved, grabbed, or ignored, it was never and will never be your claim. You can think it is but then again, you can do that with anything. This is a flaw in your logical assessment and not in the game.
