Palisade gate

Hello, I am in a small village, and I built a palisade. Later, I tried to build a gate, but it would not allow me to put one up because it was blocked by a natural wall, now I came back, and someone built a gate to my palisade. How? Not sure if this is a bug, feel free to move it mods.

Not to make another topic I'll post here because it has somewhat related
other noobs about the same situation but no deaths currently
i build the only gate they have so my big question is:
Give them the key or not???

Sometimes you are not allowed to make a gate (of any kind) unless you pave (or grass works too) the two tiles in front and behind the gate. idk if that's working as intended or not but it's a pain either way.

Hmm I thought they only had to be plowed on one side? And also, is that a texture mod? If so, where can I download it?

It's an option on the Ender client.
