Timers restting on leather tubs and study materials

Postby Nafaustu » Wed Jun 15, 2011 3:16 am

This glitch could be particular to me, I haven't seen anyone else reporting it. Since the last crash/server take down i've been have sporadic problems with timer resets. Leather, in particular, seems to be resetting to 90 from 99 over and over while on the world map. When I bring the tub into my house its acting normally.

Hides rest on me earlier today while drying, and I had one reset on study materials. I'm hoping it was just a temporary hiccup of some sort, but I thought it was worth reporting. I will post again if I find a way to duplicate or 'cause' the problem.

I'm using Ender's so I can actually see the %'s and know they reset and before anyone asks, no, i'm not one of the exploiters that got kneecapped so that's not it. :P

99 to 90? Strange. If it were simply the map unloading or a similar error it'd go back to 92. Interesting.

It is 92, in fact. I just watched it do it. I must have glanced at it wrong initially but i've been standing next to the tubs waiting ever since. If it could be some kind of map upload error, maybe i'll just keep my tubs in my house and hope it goes away. I can't appear to replicate the hides or the study progress, and they all initially glitched at about the same time.

Are you sure it wasn't just during one of the 3 server crashes we just had?

As long as the map stays loaded then the timer should never reset. Test it again my readying the tub and then standing watch by it until it hits 100%. It should take about 15 minutes but at least you can be sure that way.

I was logged in the whole time, so I don't think it involved a crash. I'm currently standing outside next to my tub and watching it, hopefully no one will shoot me while i'm stationary. (Fingers crossed, its a problem in this area.) Will report the findings as soon as I have them.

This time both tubs cleared normally. Maybe it was a localized glitch that has worked itself out. I'll keep an eye on it, and see if it happens again.

If tanning tubs are in a section of the map that "unloads" due to noone being around, they reset to 92%, much the same as when you load them into a boat and then take them out again.

This has been a known bug for many worlds now. If you stay near them, they will always complete. People often have this trouble when they leave them inside a house.

As for the other reseting timers, it's not something I have experienced in the game, would be interesting to see if you can replicate it or if anyone else knows anything more.

It was actually a workaround Loftar implemented for another tanning related bug if I recall right. (The thread is around somewhere. Can't be arsed to find it.)

To OP: You can actually utilize this feature with a cart or a boat. Load the tubs in and then take them out. They'll go straight to 92%.

For other timer resets, make sure nobody has moved the item. With the exception of chicken eggs, the timer goes back to the start, even when moving it from one position to another or picking it up and setting it back down.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

ooh ooooh ooooooooh! story time! :D
the 92% after reset was setup because the first server was a very unreliable beasty :(
it was pretty much impossible for the tub to go from 0% to 100% before the server crashed :|
the mighty jorbtar then made tubs reset to 92% when unloaded (in a cart, in a boat, in a house, unloaded map etc) so that server crashes would no longer completely prevent leather making :ugeek:
the end :D
loftar: New hair styles? Really? Seeing how Jorb never gets off his lazy ass to draw some, I almost want to add them to the game proper.
