Can't Lay stone near thicket

When i got close to the thicket it said "You don't have enough clearance to pave there".
there is no water in 50 blocks of radius
It is paved
And the thicket is 2 blocks away from the paved area

You have to be 5(?) blocks from the thicket i believe.

Same thing with other swamps and caves, too.
