Resetting

Postby NickCilley » Mon Sep 21, 2009 12:47 am

I'm new to H&H and I'm not sure if this has been addressed before but, I keep crashing (my character just freezes in an animation and won't do anything) and when I relog, it's like my character reset. [
b]Ex[/b]: Today I plowed a field and planted some wheat. Then I killed some rabbits and got meat from them. Then I crashed. When I logged back on, my character was back in the field i had planted (instead of in the forest 30 minutes away from the field) and my inventory was full of the seeds I had planted even though I had planted them before. The wheat was stilled planted though. My rabbit meat was overrided by the seeds I guess, because it was gone... :?
It's kinda frustrating :x

I'm still having trouble with the new account server I wrote and installed today. There's some bug that triggers seldomly (but often enough) that desynchronizes the communication between it and the game server, and when that happens, the connection can't be used further and its state lost, and thus the characters can't be saved. It's very frustrating, but I'm trying to debug it right now.

Well it's happening quite often. I've rolledback about....3 times.....in two days.

In two days? Really? I'd understand if you got rolled back a couple of times between Sunday and Thursday or the last couple of hours, but there shouldn't have been any rollbacks outside those two intervals.

I actually found the bug, and it turned out that it wasn't a bug in the new account server after all. :)

It was just a sleeper bug in the game server, which didn't "hurt" previously since the old account server didn't react to the erroneous condition of the game trying to save data to a non-existent character. It tried to save the log-out position of unfinished characters in the character creation room.

Hopefully, that's the end of that story. To be extra sure, though, I wrote a function to reconnect to the account server and recreate the connection state, so I really hope there won't be anymore rollbacks now.

That's good! So now we don't have to worry about it as much or will it still be somewhat there?

I just logged in and I guess I had a roll back because all the stuff I had put in a basket(thus my inventory was empty when I logged) now appears back in my inventory and in the basket....so I suppose I just recieved some free items :?

As has been said, enjoy the bug, and report it. ( Although, in this case, it's probably unnecessary, as it's well known that you can dupe items during server crashes. )
