I was going to say hi to the B12 guys and every time I get close the black loading screen shows up. I can't see the terrain on the minimap either. If I move away screen goes normal again. I am upset because I did really want to meet them and have a look around.

Re: Corrupted map tile?
I second this report. Last night, I was going down there to deliver something, and this happened. I figured it was just my cruddy internet or something, but then I heard that StarChaser has the same problem before, so it was tested again and reported.

Re: Corrupted map tile?
I am painfully well aware. The problem seems to be caused by some map data packets being larger than others, and some are large enough that they are fragmented. To my great surprise and disappointment, it seems that there are a lot of routers (consumer-grade equipment, that is) that drop fragmented packets. Dropping fragmented packets is stupid, needless and in violation of IP specifications, but they do it nonetheless. I'm quite frustrated at it, because I hate those kinds of incompetent people destroying the 'net for all of us.
It seems there are some software "firewall" programs that do the same thing as well. If you have one of those, please check its settings. (I might also recommend that you remove it. Such programs are, nine times out of ten, written by the same kind of incompetent imbeciles who think they have some idea of what security is, messing everything up. And I can almost guarantee you that it's unnecessary to begin with.)
Obviously, because of these things, I'll have to revise the map-data transfer protocol, but I haven't been able to think of a good alternative yet.

Hrm, but I'd gotten there BEFORE, though this was before it was really settled. Is it because of all the stuff being built there now?

Re: Corrupted map tile?
Not because of the stuff, but probably because of the map-altering things like roads. More fragmented terrain means worse compression, which means larger packets, which means increased chances of IP-level fragmentation.

so should we avoid making roads for the moment? I started building a road myself with stones from making iron. But i would not want that to happen to people.

Maybe so. Maybe you should do the other way around, to get people to replace their El-Cheapo routers. ;)sami1337 wrote:so should we avoid making roads for the moment? I started building a road myself with stones from making iron. But i would not want that to happen to people.

Urgh, yeah, this was it. Of course, nobody here will understand the need for a router that doesn't suck, and my ISP is rather horrid, too... blegh.
