Black screen at log in for vanilla, Ender's, and Arksu's

I am experiencing a technical difficulty with Haven and Hearth.

When I log in, regardless of whether I use the default client, Ender's, or Arksu's, the normal "Login" screen displays and allows me to click "login." Once I click "login", the game displays a message that says "Authenticating..." for several seconds, usually 5-10. Then the whole game window goes jet black instead of showing me the character selection screen.

I have run HnH on 3 other computers before, all running various versions of Windows (mostly Windows XP but one machine had Windows 7). This particular computer now is a machine running Windows Vista.

I no longer have access to the other machines (sadly) or I would just say 'O well, use one of the other computers'. There are NO ERROR MESSAGES displaying, or I would copy and paste those/print screen them.

I have the correct versions of the software (i.e. I'm running a 32bit OS with 32bit java and a 32 bit client) and at any rate that wouldn't explain the error with the default client anyway.

Anyone have some familiarity with this bug?

I saw one other post that mentioned a black screen at log in, but when I checked it out it said it had been moved to Wizard's Tower (wrong place for it as this is affecting default client too and is thus some kind of bug either on my end or on the server end (probably my end ) and at any rate, when I clicked the link to go to the topic in the Wizard's Tower, it said the topic did not exist, so I was unable to get a satisfactory resolution through that channel.

Please, if there are any suggestions, I'm all ears (or eyes, as it were).

Since I assume it will be asked at some point, here's what I'm running:

HP Pavillion laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium 6.0, Build 6002
Intel Core2 CPU 1.66GHz
2046MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 video card with 520MB Video RAM


Anyone think it might be video card related? But then why would login screen load and nothing else load? Ug. I just want to go back to enjoying my game.

There's a sticky post about nVidia cards at the top of this forum. Read through that. Also, there are known issues with loading on some computers. I've got one computer in my house the client loads in little time, on my own system, it can take 5-10 minutes to load completely. It has something to do with the resource loader and/or OpenGL support.

Yea I've let it sit for 1 hour before. Nothing loads, just a black, blank screen.

However, I was running Java 7 and I found that HnH doesn't support Java 7. So I uninstalled Java 7 and downloaded Java 6 but have tried repeatedly to install it. The program SAYS it installed and completed, but then there's no java.exe (or javaw.exe) on my computer A-N-Y-W-H-E-R-E so I don't know what to make of it or how to direct my client to the java.exe file since it doesn't exist.

So exasperated. Once (if) I solve my problem, I'm demanding that my solution be stickied forever. )))

Also, I am not crashing to desktop. My client is simply going from displaying a screen to displaying a blank, black screen. Or at least that is what it was doing before I tried to install Java 1.6.

Now that I've done THAT, I'm being told "java is not a valid internal or external application" because it no longer exists even though my COntrol Panel add/remove programs list lists Java and Java Runtime Environment 6.0. OH WELL!

This isn't true. There is an issue with Sun changing Java's security level defaults from Java SE v6 to v7. All it took was loftar changing a simple setting on the server and everything works fine. (The change occasionally gets reverted, though.)

Best I can tell you is to fiddle with drivers. Some versions have better OpenGL support than others. I don't know what to tell you. I've been trying to dig through code and see if I can understand how everything works together and maybe rewrite the whole thing (with some community help). It's not been a high priority for me, though, as I'm just not interested in playing much with how broken the game is right now.

I am also experiencing the same problems and then some. I was playing when the server restart happend between friday evening 9/3/12 - saturday morning 10/3/12.

Prior to this happening I have had no problems playing this game with the default app or clients. I logged on hours after the server restart happend and all i'd see is a blank, black screen.

So i'd try logging in again and this time it might say "cannot connect to server" so I try again and then it will say "already logged in" then I wait some more and try again and successfully log in and authenticate just to end up back at the black screen, No characer selction screen, Nothing.

I have also tried running the game on 3 different computers aswell (2 running windows 7 and the other running XP all with ATI radeon graphics cards).

I've tried re-installing Java, deleting caches, updating graphics card drivers and turned off firewall to have a test but nothing has worked so far.

Don't know what to try now. Wonderring if it's the game server.

Any help is appreciated!

Sorry for the ridiculously late reply lol (better crazy late then never I guess tho' lol).

Yeah my problem was nothing but my ISP. plain and simple.

Got a new ISP and had instantaneous success!
