client resets to login screen every 2 mins

Hello.
i'm writing here because i have a problem with both ender client and official client but I suspect it's not a real bug, so sorry if the section is wrong and thanks in advance for any help.

i start the client and log in. i move around, do some stuff, after 1-2 minutes the client goes suddendly back to the login screen. if i try to log in it says i'm already connected. i wait 1 min then i can connect and play for another 1-2 minutes. i'm sure you can tell that silk farming this way is kinda frustrating :-p

can you help me figure out what's wrong or suggest tests/experiments to do to narrow down the culprit?

random facts:
1) i never had this problem before. it started right after the new hard disk syncronization, i waited a bit to see if it was going to get better but the problem is still present
2) if it resets while gathering leaves at halfway the inventory, when i log back the inventory is full.
3) i tried to download a file while playing and the file didn't stop downloading when the client reset.
4) the reset happens with both ender and official client
5) i don't use bots if that matters anything.
6) i'm on ubuntu 11.10
7) i didn't change hardware or updated any software recently
8) When there are more objects on the screen the client resets faster than with less stuff on sight

Maybe you randomly disconnect. It says you're already connected because your ghost stays for some time after you're outta game.

that's quite often to be random disconnects, no?

BTW it's more like every 1-5 mins now.

Well i just supposed that this is the problem of your computer, not the game problem. You can try using some connection checking utilities, i think. But, well, don't listen to me. I'm pretty out of ideas what could it possibly be.

I cannot say for sure if this is connected, but i have been having huge lag for the last hour, but have had no other problems since the server-harddisk reset.
i believe its something between me and the server, all website pages seem as fast as normal, but H&H struggles with both default and Enders, for me i do not disconnect, but if i do anything in game (move, or pick leaf, or harvest, and such) it can take 10 seconds before my character actually does it, altho the server seems to be receiving ok, because the game seems to remember multiple instructions, it just relays them back to me 10 seconds later.
i realy couldnt say what the problem may be , as like you, i havent had any lag/connect problems before tonight.
i doubt if this has anything to do with this issue, but i do add the fact that tonight is the night of 'action' by various websites and internet gurus, basically shuting down various sites, and connections in protest against proposed piracy laws.

Actually i thought it could be my internet connection, that's why i did the point 3).
Is there any test more specific that i can run?

a friend suggested to check the packets with wireshark and i'm installing the program. I also added a new point to the list: When there are more objects on the screen, the client resets faster than with less stuff on sight.

At this point i think it's sure that it's my fault but i'll report what i find anyway just in case it can help someone else in the future.

Do i have to open the ports in the second post? i never did it and i could play just fine. I'm also going to call my ISP, but i don't know exactly what to say.

adding the ports to your firewall exceptions is pretty easy, you dont have to 'open' the ports, you add them to your firewall exception list, i don't know how to set it up on Ubuntu, but for windows xp you just go to control panel - windows firewall - exceptions tab - select 'add port' - the 'name' is whatever you want to call it (eg, h&h1) and the port number is the numbers in the post, add one number, and select if its TCP or UDP (1870 is UDP, 1871 is TCP)

a few things you could try here too:
try accessing any web page, H&H forum for example, - does it load well? or is it slow to load? if its pretty instant, then connection is probably ok, but try other sites to confirm.. If H&H page is dead slow to load, and the pictures/titles load slowly, then connection could be a problem.

if it not your connection try these:-

empty the h&h cache - on windows xp this is located in c:/documents and settings/"named user"/.haven/cache. (just search 'cache' and select the correct folder on ubuntu, i presume) - just explore the cache folder and delete everything in it - it is posssible that something has corrupted and is causing the crashing

on enders client - in the main game folder, try deleting all the files beginning 'belts_.........' this is your belt set up for various characters, and this can easily get corrupted and cause crashing(this wouldnt explain default client crashes)(this is a pain to re-set-up all your belts afterwards, but worth it if it works)

if none of these help, try deleting/re-dowloading/re-installing the ender's/default clients. or uninstalling/redownloading/reinstalling java. as one of these may have become corrupt.

After the day long server crash, my client isn't resetting anymore!
